New Essential Oils: Hinoki & Petigrain, Custom Blend Recipe of the Month: Hinoki Hair Growth

New Essential Oils

We're happy to introduce two new essential oils!  You can use these in either our 1/2 ounce or 4 ounce custom oil blends. 

Petitgrain (Citrus aurantium)- Made from the leaves and twigs of this amazing tree, it is antiseptic, antispasmodic, a natural deodorant, and nervine.  Use in a hair oil will leave hair and scalp fragrant (petitgrain has woody, citrus and floral notes all in one!), while soothing and preventing bacterial and fungal growth. Blends well with lavender, rose, and sandlawood. 

Hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa)- The Japanese Cypress has long been used for building Japanese wooden tubs to create an aromatic and soothing experience. It has a woody, therapeutic scent. Hinoki oil has been shown to encourage hair growth in studies and blends well with Jasmine, Ylang Ylang or Cypress.

Custom Blend Recipe of the Month: Hinoki Hair Growth

We've found that while people are interested in a custom blend for their hair, not everyone feels confident enough to pick the oils on their own. To that end, we'll be creating a suggested custom blend each month.  You'll be able to order past blends at any time, or add or subtract oils as you prefer!  These are just suggestions of ways to blend some of our many oils into our 1/2 ounce or 4 ounce custom oil blends.

We will also have our featured custom blend of the month for sale in it's own listing!

Hinoki Hair Growth Blend:

Base Oil: Avocado
Secondary Oils: Nettle-infused EVOO, Castor 
Essential Oils: Hinoki, Petitgrain, Catnip, Red Thyme, Lavender, Birch

Aroma: Woodsy and herbal, hint of mint and citrus 

Application: Intended for the scalp only. Use the dropper to apply tiny drops or fine lines of oil to the scalp and gently massage in with your fingers.  Leave on at least two hours prior to washing.

Detailed Ingredients:

Avocado Oil- This deep golden oil is an edible oil pressed from the fruit of the Persea americana (avocado). It is used for lubrication and in cosmetics where it is valued for its regenerative and moisturizing properties. Rich in nutrients, amino acids, and essential fatty acids, this nutritional oil is excellent for enhancing hair health. It supplies vitamins A, B, D, and E to nourish both hair follicles and the scalp. Vitamin E also acts as a protective antioxidant. It has natural humectant properties, adding and locking in moisture. The monounsaturated fatty acids will give hair a glossy shine and silky texture. The amino acids will promote the growth of new hair cells.

Nettle-Infused Oil– Fixed or essential oils are not obtained from this plant but extracts are produced, although not by distillation. The plant, organically grown, is macerated in virgin olive oil to produce nettle oil which contains the lipid soluble constituents. Used for treating eczema and other conditions causing itching of the skin and is natural deep cleanser useful for oily skin and hair. Nettle is also said to promote hair growth.

Castor-Oil- Long revered for its hair growth and regrowth properties, the high amounts of ricinoleic acid also makes it an effective anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent.  It is also high in omega 9 fatty acids, which are nourishing to both the hair and follicle, as well as the surrounding scalp.

Catnip Essential Oil- A stimulant, catnip can increase blood flow to the scalp, encouraging growth.  It's astringent properties help tighten miscles and skin, helping to reduce shedding in some cases.  Catnip is also reputed to assist in reducing split ends.

Red Thyme Essential Oil– Helps control an oily scalp and stimulates the scalp, promoting hair growth. So important was the herb’s aroma that its name was culled from the Greek thymon, meaning, “to fumigate.” Indeed Roman soldiers bathed in thyme before entering a battle, and in the Middle Ages sprigs of thyme were woven into the scarves of knights departing for the Crusades. Most present-day research has centered on thyme’s ability as an antibacterial and anti-infectious agent, even when diffused in the air.

 Lavender Essential Oil– Enhances hair growth by stimulating the scalp. The name “lavender” is derived from the Latin lavare, meaning, “to wash” and was known as one of the seven polyvalents (effective against many toxins). Greeks and Romans perfumed their bathwater with lavender, burned lavender incense to appease their wrathful gods, and believed the scent of lavender to be soothing to untamed lions and tigers.

Birch Essential Oil– Birch oil is another herb that is believed to help promote hair growth. This herb is often recommended to people who may be experiencing hair thinning, as it is also known to slow down hair loss.

Joining them are two new clips, each inspired by Arwen Undómiel. Arwen Undómiel is a character in J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. She appears in his best-known novel, The Lord of the Rings, usually published in three volumes. Arwen is one of the Half-elven who lived during the Third Age.

In Lord of the Rings, the Fellowship of the Ring, when Arwen defeats the Ringwraiths after crossing the river, the words she speaks in that scene translate into English thus: “Waters of the Misty Mountains, hear the word of power, rush, waters of Bruinen (Loudwater), against the Ringwraiths!” (Nîn o Chithaeglir lasto beth daer; rimmo nín Bruinen dan in Ulaer!)

This butterfly brooch clasped her riding cloak shut, and now adorns a hair clip fitting for an elven princess.

The Ficcare is a brand new size Large (5 inches from tip to tip). A silver Elvish knotwork butterfly is riveted and wired with sterling silver wire to the clip. Silver leaf accents grace the attachment points, and are cased in Ice Resin making them smooth and seamless so as not to snag hair.

The Ficcare is a brand new size Large (5 inches from tip to tip). A silver Elvish knotwork butterfly is riveted and wired with sterling silver wire to the clip. The green of the butterfly is hand-painted enamel, sealed with shimmering Ice Resin. Silver leaf accents grace the attachment points, and are cased in Ice Resin making them smooth and seamless so as not to snag hair.

A removable drape hooks onto the edges of the butterfly, with three lengths of silver chain draping to an elvish silver metal filigree in the center. Two sea green glass droplets and one olivine green glass droplet add flashing bits of color to the drape.

New Essential Oils: Catnip, Neroli, Jasmine, Rose and Sandalwood

We're happy to introduce five new essential oils!  You can use these in either our 1/2 ounce or 4 ounce custom oil blends. 

Jasmine Essential Oil- This oil helps to bust stress- which can drain nutrients from the body.  Using jasmine oil along with coconut oil has Shown to encourage hair growth. Along with adding to the volume and length, it gives dry hair a radiant lustre.

Neroli Essential Oil- With its light, citrusy scent, neroli has antibacterial properties that helps keep scalps healthy. Cytophylactic, it promotes the generation of new cells and stimulates the health of those already present.

Sandalwood Essential Oil- An anti-inflammatory with a warm woody scent, it soothes tender scalps and can help help heal eczema and psoriasis, soothe, shrink pimples and reduce dandruff.

Rose Essential Oil- Soothes an irritated or sensitive scalp due to its anti-inflammatory benefits that reduce redness and can relieve a dry, tender scalp. It also has antibacterial properties, helping elmininating fungus and bacteria on the scalp.  
Packed full of antioxidants, like Geraniol, it can help eliminate any impurities and protect the scalp and hair from oxidative stress.

New Product Pictures: Triple Moon Oil & Herbal Hair Colors

In our continued to update and unify the look of all our products, we've knocked two more big areas out: Triple Moon Oil and our Herbal Hair colors.

Both of these products have been shipping with the new labels for awhile now, but only recently was I able to get photos for everything.  Better and more accurate product pictures help people feel confident in what they're buying.  They're fun, but arranging them, shooting them, editing the photos, and uploading them takes awhile.  Just to do the two sizes of Triple Moon Oil, start to finish, took well over ten hours.

But now, finally, we've got the newest labels as well as brand-new product shots! Here's a few, but check out the listings for our 1/2 Sample Size and 4 oz size of our Triple Moon Hair Anointing Oil to see them all!

Herbal Hair Colors

The packaging here went through three variations, just like the Triple Moon oil had. They started out looking like this:

I really wanted to get ingredients on the packages themselves, so even though they never got updated product pictures, the labels that shipped looked like this for awhile while the newest ones were in development:

But the newest pictures, not only reflect our current branding but also show all the ingredients (on the large sizes, samples have too little space on the label):

Many of the listings (where photos allow, I can't bring myself to take down the 1000 x 1000 pixel warning on some of them to make space), now also show a picture of the closeup of the herbal dust to show how fine the sift is.
